Or even perhaps >if you've met someone who said some words to you that made an influence on >your music? Here is my story, A couple of years ago I had a phone call from a local radio DJ desperate to find a brass band to play at a sell-out (900 people) "Children in Need" charity concert in Salisbury City Hall that he was organising. The reason for his desperation was due to the fact that he had been let down by his regular band and the concert was in just three days time. The concert was the variety type with lots of other acts and the band would have to fill a 15-minute slot. I put it to the band but all we could muster was about 12 players and no conductor and no time to rehearse. We decided that we would put our reputation on the line and give it a go. We selected some pieces that we all knew very well and before we went on stage we worked out how we would start each piece and turn the tricky corners, anyway, in short it was the most scary musical experience of my entire life where the expression "brown adrenaline" really is an accurate one. There is a moral of this story, however, as the DJ was so impressed by us and the fact that we came to his rescue (free of charge) that he has organised a paid Christmas concert for the band and given us loads or radio publicity for the last two years!
