Re: Information about Pieces

In the booklet of the CD "Cambridge Variations - The Music of Philip Sparke
Vol. 1" by the BNFL Band you can read about the Jubilee Overture:

Jubilee Overture was written in 1983 at the request of Keith Wilkinson to
provide a piece to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the GUS Band, with whom
the composer used to play. The work was initially recorded by the band and
then given at the band's Jubilee Concert later that year. It starts with a
broad fanfare with a quieter central section which leads to a busting
allegro with frequent changes of metre. A joyful second subject leads to a
cantabile tune on the euphoniums which is taken up by the whole band. The
allegro returns and leads to a coda where the opening fanfare is restated,
ending in a recall of the second subject.

The opening of the allegro contains the band's initials translated into
musical notes:

G - G
U - (Ut) - C
S - (Es) - E flat
