As I understand it, (having been chatting to one of the registration officials on the Sunday), the L & SC area will be very lucky to be solvent after this contest as there was so much damage done to the leisure centre where the contest was held. Apparently band members were smoking in the gym (despite many no smoking signs) and have damaged the bowls mat which will have to be relaid (about GBP5000) and a carpark barrier was broken by a band coach which will also have to be replaced (about GBP500). There might not have been any registration controversy, but I am disgusted that championship and first section bands should think that they can get away with breaking the rulesof the host venue. Thanks to these band(s), presumably membership and entry fees are now going to have to be raised, and I expect a new venue may have to be found for next years contest if Stevenage Leisure Centre decide that they want nothing more to do with us. Apologies to any bands who competed on Saturday who are innocent, but the guilty parties know who they are......
