South York's Police disqualification upheld

The Yorkshire area of the national contest council have upheld there
decision to disqualify the south Yorkshire police band at the Yorkshire area
contest.

The band omitted a registered player from the player list and discovered the
error the night before the contest. The contest controller advised that the
player, a 14 year old girl at her first contest was ineligible to play. The
band thought long and hard about what to do (having just been promoted to
the 1st section) and agreed to play and be disqualified. They announced this
at the draw and received support from most other competing bands
The band agreed to play because to leave the player out after 2 months of
hard work was unacceptable and was likely to put the youngster off banding
for life.
 The band played got 6th place and were then disqualified.

The band now intends to appeal to the national contest council.

Many thanks to the bands who have written given their support.....don't hold
your breath for any change in the decision
