Absolutely secure with never a hint of a split each of > the 4 times. > Good going. > > Now if he can get the soprano note at the end of the second > movement of Morley > Calvert's Canadian Folk Song Suite, his life will be complete. > That was a concert and I was playing my favourite Rotar C. The Calvert was a rehearsal and I was trying a new mouthpiece. I will get that note at the concert. Actually I was trying out a new mouthpiece for Cornet by Najoom. It features detachable backbores. I have never found a mouthpiece for soprano that works really well for me. The Bach 7E I have used is OK for high clarino passages but too hard toned and too narrow. The Monette is great for tone but a little to overpowering at times. Especially on some of the stuff that stays above the staff continuously. The top part for the Najoom is about like a Bach 1 but maybe just a little to wide for an Eb instrument. It's Great until you get to band and then you are louder than 8 Bb cornets combined. The requirements in band are half way between cornet and piccolo trumpet. Intonation isn't a problem if the band is in tune. It's ****** **#&%$** if it isn't. Especially the BBbs. We moved one guy from EEb to BBb recently and got 2 new solo cornets Cornet the combination of these two changed my life from misery to pleasant times. A BBb that isn't flat and a solo cornet section that isn't sharp AND flat simultaneously. Coool They even play in tune together. Yeah baby! Besides Morley told me he put the A in the middle and at the end just to make soprano players sweat. When he conducted it he used to look over with a sort of "lets see if you get it this time". He put the unprepared top Bb in Elegy and Caprice to see if the Sops could do it. If you are sneaky you can softly play with the solo cornet the Bb an octave lower in the previous bar as a "launching pad" Whatever works.
