Alec wrote... "Mr Sykes had a letter published in the March edition of BBW magazine, asking if anyone could offer any advice on the matter. I felt that if he couldn't work out the obvious solution for himself - i.e. use a practice mute - he deserved the fine!" Practice mutes are fine as far as they go, but how is practice going to be enjoyable if all you can hear is the bleating of a constipated sheep with sinus problems? (So what's new, before anyone says it!) I used to live next door to a couple of right old miserable f*rts, so I used to practise in the band room (only three or four minutes away in the car). I also sold my beloved piano and bought an electric one so I could use headphones. (Very nice it is too but I'd still rather have a real one!) I only ever played at "reasonable" times, but I couldn't do anything right as far as they were concerned. Maybe I should have turned the stereo up to cover the noise? It's my guess that if Mr Sykes' neighbours weren't complaining about his euph then they'd be complaining about something else. The trouble is, once they start whinging to "the authorities", you are on dodgy ground. Jud --
