David You wrote -. 'In my part of the country one only seems to hear a band at the local shopping centre at Christmas (and then only a handful of players). As it is now so expensive to hire a full band (even for a charity event) people hardly ever hear a band. SO.....at least to me, after a lifetime's interest it appears that contesting will soon become the main occupation.' Fortunately this doesn't hold true for all bands. A look at the diary page on some band sites shows just how busy they are and how extremely hard they work to raise funds. A look at St. Keverne's Calendar on http://www.brosky.cwc.net will show you that a July break in Cornwall could be the tonic you need :- the band always welcomes visiting players. Since many of the youth band also play for the senior band your maturity would help to raise the 'age profile'! Chris B --
