It is from a musical called High Wide and Handsome.  Try the website at
www.eur.com/musicals . There is not much info except the date and title, but
it may give you some links.

Now I have done my good turn for the day, can anybody help me out with a
query?

When I was at school (ie a long long time ago!) I played a piece called
'Overture to Dr Miracle', arranged for orchestra.  Does anyone know when it
was written, who wrote it, and whether it has ever been arranged for brass
band?
