Personally I play on a Denis Wick 6BL. I have tried the Vincent Bach series
5G which works very well especially in high register solos.
I have experimented with 4s through to nines which are great for Jazz but
lousy in the low register.
The Denis Wick 6bl is a good alrounder for band and solos. The 5al is good
for band 2nd tromb work but too restrictive on higher registers.
Give the 6 bl a try and I dont think you will need to change.
