I've also experienced problems with children learning brass at the Music for
Schools courses.
I've come across children from different schools and different MSF teachers
and I must say that the standard is not wonderful.
I know that in one school a tenor horn pupil shares a 20 minute lesson with
3 clarinet pupils (the teacher plays clarinet). I have also come across the
problem of children not being taught correct techniques I.a tonguing,
blowing out cheeks and posture.
I have noticed that MSF pushes hard for instruments to be purchased or
leased form Normans and there does seem to annoyance if instruments are
acquired elsewhere.
