Re: Mouthpieces

Hi Lizzie,

Is your DW mouthpiece old or new, gold or silver? Have you tried changing the plate rather than getting a new mouthpiece?

I had trouble with a DW mouthpiece, but I got it replated, and it was fine.

If it's silver, it might be worth trying replating it. Apparently mouthpieces (Denis wick, Bach etc) have nickel used in their silver which causes some
people to have allergies. If it's replated in pure silver (or gold) you might not have the same problem. Also Denis Wick / Besson take a shortcut on their
gold mouthpieces. They put gold directly onto the brass which causes it to wear away quickly, exposes the brass underneath, which can cause allergies. (Not
to mention little bits of plate that get stuck in your lip as it wears!)

There's a crowd called Knight Mouthpiece Services who will replate a euph mouthpiece in pure silver for nine pounds sterling, or gold for eighteen (I had a
few done, they look better than they were new!) I'll send on details if you want it.

William
