Evan, hello, it's been a while ! As someone quite close to the current situation at Fodens and the future of JW, I have to say that what he has done at Dyke is move them away from mainstream banding, some may see this as a good thing, others a bad thing. He has also, probably indirectly, lowered the contesting standard of the band - there are no real "names" there anymore. Dyke are also lucky to have an audience, it seems, who will go to Dyke concerts regardless of their current contest standing or even, it seems, their playing level. Ask yourself - do these people listen with their ears or their eyes ? - do they see the gold and black and automatically think "this is / will be great !"? Nick's challenge is to get the band playing to the exeptionally high standard that the band had at it's greatest time (early to mid 80's) and to do this I think will need some personnel changes but also a totally different approach to repertoire (sp?) and mindset of the players. A 'professional outfit' they may be but a mainstream, traditional band they are not ! Good luck Nick, Phil. -- njh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The list is bought to you with help from Normans Musical Instruments, http://www.normans.co.uk
