Pershore Midsummer Brass

Dear All,

Pershore Midsummer Brass was, as usual, a terrific day out, with some
fantastic performances from all of the bands that played. Stourport were
excellent (with David Maplestone surely walking away with this year's title
for most amusing ad-libbing), as were Halesowen, Winchcombe, and Tewkesbury
(the ragtime cornet trio was A1). Staffs were also terrific. And thank you
to the band who played Mack and Mabel (I can't remember who it was, now):
you made my mother's day!!

And does anybody know who played with the most bands this year? I saw Tim
Morgan play for 3, and there was a sop player I saw play for 3- any
advances?

On a sour note, however, I was angered, upset, and not to mention disgusted,
by the compere's announcement that Flowers were 'one of the star
attractions'. All of the bands are star attractions, be they championship,
4th section, or one of the younger bands performing in Chapman Court. Why
did the 4 championship bands have their names in bold in the programs?

There are a lot of other section bands who have supported Pershore for a
long time, and always put a lot of time and effort into the performances.
Maybe next year we should leave the 'star attractions' to it, and see how
good a day it is?

Shelley
