I take your point, but I suppose it comes down to how you define 'star
attraction'. I've always liked to think there was more to banding
than rankings. Yes, Flowers were technically very good, but I enjoyed a lot
of the other bands more; Stourport, whilst not a championship section band,
performed very well and played a very entertaining programme.

Not wanting to blow our own trumpet (sorry...), but I thought Arrow Valley's
soloists more than deserved their applause; Russell's Drummer's Delight
(lengthy) drum solo was excellent, and the three solos in the Abbey
(Demelza, Rusalka's Song to the Moon, and Aranjuez) were also very nicely
done. And as I said previously, the cornet trio from Tewkesbury were
excellent. Again, they may not have been from the championship section, but
they played well and were, above all, very entertaining. Is that not what we
do this for?
