I agree that it would be nice to have a challenge although maybe not
that much of one.
I play for a 4th section band and we are playing 'The Seasons' by Philip
Wilby for the Nationals. This seems to have very little in it for some
parts and although I am sure I will be pulled up plenty of times for
intonation, expression, volume, playing together, etc. there is nothing
at all tricky in the rhythms or notes in my part - Eb Bass and the Bb
Bass part looks even less interesting.
I think I will be completely fed up of it by the end of October and am
quite disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed playing the Haslemere Suite and
was looking forward to something similar
