Does your Conductor get paid?

Hi all,

Last Night Moulton 77 Brass Band (2nd Section)said goodbye to their
Conductor as that was his last rehearsal, he is still going to play in the
band but has had enough of conducting (fair enough).

I have only been in the band since September when I started Uni and was
slightly surprised when I heard that he didn't get paid for the 6 years he
was in residence. I came from a 4th section Band who paid their conductor
(main band and learners band)for every rehearsal.

I thought it was commonplace to pay a conductor in this day and age.
The committee at Moulton seem adamant that they don't want to pay anyone of
the 7 applicants (some are quite well known!) a fee or expenses.

I didn't say anything at the meeting (during rehearsal) because I didn't
want to put any noses out of joint, I also haven't been there that long and
wanted to get some more information about the situation before I give my
say.

This is my question:

Does your conductor get paid?
If so how much? (if u don't mind) (How many rehearsals do you have a week?)
Do they get paid expenses? (e.g. travel etc)
What Section are you in?

They claim paying a conductor would financially cripple the Band. I don't
agree, they do loads of paying jobs through the year and don't have to pay
for a rehearsal venue so I'm suspicious.

If you don't want to divulge this information to the whole list please do
get in contact privately on my email address.

All information and thoughts gratefully received.
