Check with the Open University Press, they did a book on banding, to which I'll have the details tomorrow.

They also do a course,A832 Victorian Popular Music" course http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?C01A832
for which they recommend
David Russell (1997) Popular Music in England 1840-1914: a Social History, Manchester University Press, £13.99
for study material.
