GCSEs A Levels and all that

Dear List,

As a music teacher, I'm a little astounded at what people are saying about
G.C.S.E. and A Levels.

The NEAB G.C.S.E. only required one performing instrument, but two pieces,
(solo & ensemble). There was never any requirement for two different
instruments - at least not within the last 10 years.

At A level, there has been an option for two recitals, which should be
performed on instruments from different families. This is also the case with
the new AS level under the OCR specification (their word, not mine).
Yours,
