[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] practising for nerves!
At last I seem to be getting one over the nerves problem. But yesterday I
tried out a suggestion made by Bob Childs at Summer School... his idea is to
run up and down the stairs 10 times, then practise your solo. The idea is
that you will recreate the problems of stage fright - thumping heart, be hot
and bothered, short of breath, and if you can play like that you can play in
any state!
He didn't mention the problems of being totally unfit however... I only
managed 7 cycles of the stairs, the last one slowing down to a crawl as I
thought my legs were going to disappear under me... it took a further five
minutes of recovery collapsed in a heap before I could even contemplate
lifting my flugel, never mind playing anything!
Bob - do nerves really get that bad or am I doing something wrong??!! Next
time I think 2 or 3 times will be quite enough!
