Is there anything constructive we can suggest towards the British Bandsman in regards to its constant stream of errors in its publication? For example, a local band was advertising for a conductor in the bandsman, for which I applied for. Then there was an article in the bandsman stating they had a new M.D., so I withdrew my application. The following week there was an apology stating that the band in question hadn't got a new M.D., and they had got it wrong. By then, I'd already auditioned for another band. The band in question have every right to be annoyed about this, especially as it costs about £50 to put an advert in the bandsman in the first place! I think some things the Bandsman does is great. However it does suffer from a few things, the above being the main point. The other point is that the same bands are always featured in the articles. Is the only way to get featured in the newspaper to pester the editorial staff? I would like to see more articles about bands that are improving or have had something 'new' to them i.e. conductors, players, band rooms etc. A full article instead of a paragraph would help the rest of take inspiration. I am concerned that if I voice these feelings to BB, it would prejudice my bands positions in any future editorials. Colin Harris.
