Re: Valved Trombone

I'd love never to hear the Acrobat again on anything!

Valve T-bone is perfectly acceptable - most, if not all, of Verdi's trombone
parts were written for it. Hence the fact that they are b****y hard on a
slide trombone. The instrument is also very popular amongst jazz players.
Please can we enter the 20th. or even 21st. century with some of our brass
band attitudes.

Before you all go beserk - I agree that the slide trombone is the instrument
most of us 'bone players use, but the one with valves is a real instrument.
Most of the parts I see just say trombone, not slide trombone. I don't
believe that the valve trombone has been declared illegal yet! I don't like
them, but they are real, and unless the rules specifically say "slide
trombone" I'd like to see them ( whoever!!) ban it. Then, if the rules state
"slide trombone" then fair enough.

In fact, can we get on with making music instead of bickering over
technicalities?
