Thanks Tom for the clarification. Large bore sort of slipped in. Obviously I
was thinking more of trombones although even there most of the top contesting
bands are now using 547 bore even on top trombone. The style of trombone
playing in brass band is different to the 10 piece grouping especially for
trombones who have to blow very hard to balance in a brass band. The balance in
a 10tet or orchestra is much more natuaral. The 10tet uses a french horn also
and the tenor/alto horn would not come close to balancing.
