OK, its  a Sunday afternoon and I'm sitting here at work (doh!) so it
seems like a good time to diverge from corruption topics and check out
whether something I was told years ago is true.

What I heard was that Eric Ball was conducting his band (GUS?) at a
contest and the test piece was Resurgam, which of course he composed.
Apparently the adudicator's observation was that this was NOT how the
composer intended this piece should be played, or words to that
effect.

Is that actually true, or is it just a big brass band  furfie that I
have helped perpetuate over the years?
