Our esteemed press officer Malcolm has asked me to forward this to all
members...

so here it is....

Sadly, the members of the Manx National Youth Band Organisation have had to
make the painful decision to defer the proposed trip to North America next
year.  A number of factors have conspired to force this course of action,
the major one being finance.  It was always going to be a delicate balancing
act between sponsorship, fund-raising and the cost to the individual members
of the group.  Unfortunately, the costs have mushroomed since the initial
projections were made whilst sponsorship has not met expectations.  The loss
of our contact in America, he has decided to return to live in Ramsey, has
left a huge gap in the organisation of concert venues, publicity etc.  With
deadlines rapidly approaching by which flights and accommodation had to be
booked, a decision had to be made as to the future plans.
Meetings were held at which various options were discussed.  The outcome is
that plans for North America will be put on ice and a slightly less
ambitious tour will be undertaken to a European country with concerts being
organised by a specialist tour company.  It is hoped that this will be very
attractive to the younger Youth Band members and their families.  The aim of
the organisation has always been to not only give young people a good
musical training but also to give them memorable experiences which will help
the throughout their lives.

It is hoped that the dream of North America will be come the reality of
somewhere like Austria, Italy or Cyprus and that lasting memories will still
be made.  Our reasons for making this momentous decision are genuine and we
hope that the public will continue to support the bands in their aims to
which they are now working.
