I'd just use string - mine uses a spring but the bass trombonist in YB2000
broke his string in the middle of a concert but had some string in his bag
and he's still using it (as far as I know - he left just over a year ago -
he helps out sometimes though).  Just tie it as usual.

Unless you want it pink or yellow, of course...  On that subject, does
anyone know anything about the Yamaha Blue range (prices, opinions etc.)
they look quite nice and I wouldn't mind knowing how they play.
