Owning instruments

It would be interesting to know what proportion of band members have
personally bought the instruments they play. My guess is that many more
players own their instruments than would have been the case fifty or a
hundred years ago. Would I be right in estimating that about 5% of players
play their own instruments?

Probably cornet players are most likely to buy instruments, since they are
the 'cheapest'. Is this in fact what happens?

Does buying your instrument add to the pride and respect with which you
treat it and the care you take of it? I should think so.
