An excellent point raised below.  So why contest at all, unless you
like to contest? (And that is a fine pastime if that is what you
want).

And having done so, your rating is then only relative to those that do
so.  For example, "Champion of the World" <sic> is only a badge that
that applies to the set of those bands who wanted to play that
particular game, under those particular rules, in that particular
place.

No more, no less.
