Re: New Grading System

Kevin,

You have got me thinking ! (no mean achievement!)

I have pondered about the inadequacies of the grading system and come up
with the following.
Please don't all come round and lynch me, they are only suggestions: (I'm
not sure about number 3, what does everyone else think ?)

1) Results from 3 years ago shouldn't count because a bands standard
of 3 years ago is nothing like the bands standard now.

2) The more contests that are counted the better - I suggest 2 grading
contests
per year over 2 years instead of 1 grading contest a year over 3 years. I
think
this would give a better indication of a bands "form" while also
smoothing out "chance"
   results.

3) National finals to be sped and the formation of a nation-wide
superleague
which takes place on the same weekend as the areas and has promotion and
relegation
to the areas championship section. (it is a bit unfeasible for lower
section or indeed any
bands to fork out 5 or 6 grand to get to the national finals).

On point number 1, my band has changed 50% of its players since competing at
the area 3 years ago.

On point number 2, my band won the area 3 years ago but got demoted after
only 1 year in the top section. We still however get an "average placing"
for the year we won - seems daft to me.

On point number 3, a lot of bands in my area win the 1st section, then get
'ass kicked'
in the top section and go straight back down, which is all a bit
demoralising.

All views are my own and nothing to do with the Band I play for.
