It is a pretty standard Eric Ball theme which he wrote over and over again.
Tension, difficulty, challenge, slow and growing theme and resolution as we
attain a degree of enlightenment. Think Resurgam, Triumph of Peace, etc etc.
Strange though that Eric made this theme fresh and interesting every time he
did it. The theme undoubtedly comes as a result of his Salvation Army
upbringing but the book someone suggested may be more helpful.
Please don't read this a s a criticism of Eric. He was a wonderful man, a major
force in brass banding and a fine gentleman to know..
