Hi,
Under 100 AND a good make, tall order! I work a lot with kids and I'm always
on the lookout for cheap instruments. But over time I've found.what you get for
under 100 is normally termed "an ornament" rather than " an instrument"! :)
THen again you might be lucky!
However, I got a nice Yamaha for 120 on Ebay a while back. .THere's a lot of
rubbish and over-priced instruments on it as well, but if know the difference
you'll be ok!
It's also worth trying smaller music shops, online or call in, as most of the
larger brass shops have a steady trade in secondhand instrumnets and may charge
more, although they're more likely to be good quality. A lot of shops will also
have ex-rental instruments that they want to sell off..
But a great source of bargains is to try music shops that normally don't do
much brass. Often you'll find an instrument, mouthpiece, mute etc tucked away
somewhere that they couldn't get rid of. I got a new Amati cornet for 100 a few
months ago in a guitar shop that they bought in for a local jazz festival a
couple of years ago and couldn't sell!
Hope this helps,
Will
