Re: Re: Auditioning MDs

Speaks well to mechanics, some other thoughts;

Does the band perform better at the end of the rehearsal than when they
started the rehearsal
Does the conductor appear to command the attention and respect of the
players
Does he appear afraid to correct repeated faults perhaps for fear of not
gaining the appointment (e.g. a pleaser) or are they neutral in their
approach to the engagement, true to their role and focus on what needs to be
done to improve the performance
Was there an efficient use of rehearsal time or did they spend their time
telling you their life history and rambling on vs. state the action to take
and then carry on
Does the person seem like someone who can preserve the spirit of the
organization while continuously improving the standard - are they going to
provide for the 'ongoing stability of the organization' <bands go on usually
far longer than their conductors>(important - may conductors bring in new
players, throw out those who have been there for years, the band sounds
better, they move on and the entire organization collapses)
