I think your points are right on the money.  Although Erik Leidzen did use
sfp a fair amount, I always thought that was more of a trademark of Emil
Soderstrom.
Leidzen's use of low brass... open 5ths.... melodies in tubas etc. were all
innovative at the time...  I feel the same way about Vinter.  Those two guys
could get more sound out of a band....

I totally agree about Leidzen writing for "pro" sounds.  There were a lot of
bands that couldn't handle his music just for the reasons you give.... but
Leidzen in the hands of a good conductor and a solid band ...was pure
heaven......

Leidzen was also a master at writing solo accompaniments as I'm sure you
will agree.  Of course the solo writing was great too... That's a special
talent.....

"immense colour and interest to the music"  that's where it's at.
