George, absolutely right - this has nothing to do with the PRS side of
performing in public. (although some well made points have been expressed on
that area as well!)

The proposed legislation could have a profound effect on amateur music
making in the UK, not just public performance but our ability to rehearse as
well.
It seems to be another example of stealth taxes being imposed on the long
suffering british public.
In addition to people contacting their local MP's, there are a lot of people
in our movement (last time I did any research, there were over 1000 brass
bands alone in the UK - thats some 25,000 people!), we could perhaps harness
the power of the web to get every band in the UK to compile a petition of
some kind.
