but over this side of the pond he is not well known these days.  I did some
work on the Sinfonietta a little while ago but apart from very occasional
performances of that fine piece (and Christmas Joy!) he is not heard very
much in the UK (outside the SA, of which I know little).

What are his best and most characteristic pieces; can you provide us with a
listening and playing guide?
