I'm new to fourth section banding, having always played with a full band in higher sections. I'm hoping we'll have a full band plus 3 percussion for Lydian Pictures. But what I'm not clear on is the adjudicators point of view. Do adjudicators penalise you if they can't hear a part, eg sop, 2nd baritone or 3rd percussion, or only if they hear it and it's wrong? If the former is true, where's the incentive for bands short of players?
