I totally accept your point and find none of it a problem. I especially
value your comment "But I'm happy to fill gaps for concerts and contests
should they arise. Surely the strength of any organisation can be measured
by how much it keeps in reserve"
My initial point came from comments I have heard from a few players who felt
they had been sidelined by their bands and were, I feel, justifiably annoyed
that they appeared to have done all the less exciting work during the year.
In every case their answer was simple --they joined bands where they felt
valued.
