Haven't you guys heard of 'devil's advocate'? I can think of a number of
responses from the pro-arrangement point of view, but I would be interested
to hear yours - you didn't actually make any, you just offered me abuse."

Aaron.....

I'm glad you recognized it more as abuse rather than humor. I wasn't really
trying to be abusive though. I don't usually react like this, but I couldn't
resist. Your absurd comments just pushed my buttons and even now, you don't
seem to get it.

Brass band arrangements of the classics were never done because recordings
of orchestras were not available. Brass band arrangements of "anything"
have always been essential, just for the growth of the movement. According
to your " narrow concept," this also would mean that every wind band or
jazz arrangement of the classics would now be obsolete by your standard and
not worthy anyone's time.

I did not take your position as a 'devil's advocate'..... more as
misinformed
naive and immature to be honest with you. I also don't understand your
term, "pro-arrangement point of view." What is that suppose to mean?
Do you come from the brass band movement? You sound like a "holier than
thou" outsider with no knowledge of brass bands, their history or roots.

Since you asked me for my view, I think ALL music, wherever it comes from,
is a valid source for brass bands. All music should be played and heard no
matter what YOUR personal taste is. I think you should stick
your technology in your pocket (or somewhere else) as you need to
develop your taste in music. At this point you are missing a whole
wide- wide world of good music.
