Though it does use a hymn tune, i wouldnt call it an arrangement, otherwise all SA music would be classed as arrangements (sorry, having grown up in the SA im quite picky with regards to SA music!) Now you have my curiosity up. I'm going have to go back and listen to this piece again. I thought the trombone idea was a good one. That's a great solution if you don't have good sounding voices. Dave.....how did that section sound with just trombones in relationship to the rest of the piece? As I recall, it was written for male chorus which would work well for trombones. All the men (and women) humming the melody with trombones playing in four parts would also sound good. Thomas... I would consider much of the SA repertoire as "arrangements" and should be designated as that. I'm not referring to pieces like "The Holy War" and "My Strenght My Tower" which are more compositional and use the hymn tune as a vehicle. I grew up in the SA as well and am very "picky" in regards to music in general. Why single out SA music? Very often SA musicians seem to separate SA music from all other music. Great music is great music and bad music is bad music, no matter where it comes from.
