RE: Instrument Cleaning

Subject: [BRASS-BAND:5852] Instrument Cleaning

I am interested in learning what miraculous and magical methods are used
by members with success for the cleaning of instruments.

Being a person who used to play on one of the old frosted silver basses I
found that it was difficult to clean by normal methods, I was informed by an
old hand who used to work for Barrats of Manchester (no longer with us),
that white wash was the answer. You mixed the powder with water painted it
on the instrument and when it was dry brushed it off with a soft cloth. It
worked a treat, bringing the instrument up like new, unfortunately you can
no longer buy white wash anymore.
