Hardly an original act.  You've no doubt heard of Jean
Baptiste Lully's impaling himself in the foot whilst
"conducting,"  err, pounding time.  This happened long
before the genesis of the brass band movement.
Hopefully, the conductor in the West Country won't
meet the same fate as M. Lully.   :-)
