Interesting article Bill. As a composer I have often found that more delicately scored works are the type that I prefer to write, but they are more difficult to make "work". I have often pondered why this is, I suspect it's unsympathetic conducting. One can possibly infer from this the conclusion that since louder works are more likely to succeed, perhaps for the reason I mention, it is those that we think of more fondly. I would suggest putting in front of them the other piece written by a world class composer, namely The Severn Suite (the original version please), and see what their response is to that. -Nigel -- Nigel Horne.
