This composition can represent any journey that the listener
has in mind.
Journey starts in an agitated manner, depicting excitement at the start of the
journey. John Dutton then takes us through various themes, some of which are quite short,
indicating passing through locations, sometimes more than once, rather than
stopping to visit them, as shown by longer themes. At O, the muted augmented
chords represent the traveller recalling some of the places already seen, until
he or she is brought back to reality at P by the timpani and percussion. From
the fifth bar of Q, the mood again becomes hectic, as the traveller reaches a
new destination at the end of the composition - or perhaps returns home!
It is suitable for use as a 2nd section test piece.
