Enderby
Band is pleased to confirm the appointment of Stephen Cooper as their
Musical Director. Stephen will work with the band over the busy Christmas period
and towards the Midlands Area Championship in early March. The band is extremely
pleased to secure the services of Stephen, who they feel will bring a lot of
experience and expertise to the band. Stephen is a peripatetic tutor in the
Warwickshire area and a graduate of the London College of Music where he studied
Euphonium with James Gourlay, Trombone with David Evans and conducting with
James Stobart.
During his career he has played regularly with some of the top
UK orchestras, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra,
Philharmonia Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also
performed on countless compact disc recordings such as the Wallace Collection,
Brassed Off and GI Jane. His interest in the brass band world has continued
since his early years as a baritone player with Bedworth Brass, undertaking
appointments either as a player or conductor with Desford, William Davis,
Travelsphere and more recently Wooley Pritchard Sovereign Brass.
Whilst the band looks forward to this new era, they would like
to take this opportunity to thank Rob Boulter for his hard work and commitment
during the interim period of appointing somebody full-time. During his time Rob
prepared and conducted the band at the recent Buxton and Wychavon Entertainment
Contests. Rob has now resumed his focus on Syston Band.
Enderby Band are a self-funding 1st section band based in
Leicestershire (Midlands), located close to the junction 21a of the M1. They
rehearse twice a week on Tuesday and Friday 7.45-9.45pm. The Enderby Band
Organisation is the umberella title and has in excess of 100 musicians that help

Enderby
Band have appointed Rob Boulter as their MD for the forthcoming Leicester
Contest in November. This agreement follows the departure of John Broadhurst who
led the band for ten years. A massive token of thanks must go to John for his
sterling work over that period, undertaking many duties above and beyond his
role as MD. During his time John and the band were successful at numerous
contests, and played in some highly prestigious concerts with guest soloists.
One memory was when the band appeared on the front page of the British
Bandsman in 1994 under the title 'Enderby Celebrates!' having beaten hot
favourites, EYMS, at Pershore Entertainment Contest, and later that year winning
the 1st section at Wychavon Contest. Although, one of his greatest achievements
was his leading of the band into the Championship section in 1995, the first
time in the bands 107 year history. To thank John for his hard work and
commitment, the band recently gathered for a meal and presented John and his
wife Jackie with token of their appreciation.
The band now looks forward to working with Rob over the
forthcoming period in what both hope will be a successful partnership. It is an
exciting period in the bands history, what with the agreement with Rob and the
accomplishment of attaining a permanent home - another first in the bands 107
year history. Having a permanent home will make a massive difference to the band
in terms of consistency and work rate in rehearsals - no longer will they have
to unpack and repack equipment at either end of the rehearsal, and run the risk
of damaging the equipment.

Coventry Band
Finds New Sponsors |
|
The former Rolls-Royce (Coventry) Band based in Binley,
Coventry has secured a new sponsorship arrangement with Jaguar Cars Ltd. in
Coventry.
After a two-year search, Jaguar Cars has agreed to sponsor the
band, in return for which the band has adopted the company's name and will be
now known as The
Jaguar (Coventry) Band.
"The aim with this new relationship is to provide long
term stability for the band in return for which the band will pro-actively
assist Jaguar by supporting the local community both in promotional work but
more importantly by assisting local charities and good causes," says Band
Manager Kevin Lea.
"We have tried hard to appreciate that in modern
businesses support for local bands is still difficult to justify and we hope to
have built a relationship in a creative manner for the mutual benefit of all. We
cannot fault the support from Rolls-Royce plc and wish to take the opportunity
to express our sincere thanks to them. We are also sure that our new chapter as
Jaguar (Coventry) Band will prove to be just as successful."
The band has been supported by Rolls-Royce plc for the last
twenty-years but due to restructuring of their core businesses they were unable
to continue the relationship. Even so they kindly agreed to continue to provide
rehearsal facilities until a suitable new sponsor was found.
Les Ratcliffe - Community Relations Manager for Jaguar Cars,
comments, "It has been apparent that whilst getting to know the band - the
band actively supports numerous local and national charities many of which
Jaguar also support. In addition they are excellent ambassadors for the City of
Coventry. These are two qualities we at Jaguar also strive for. We are excited
about the new relationship and about the numerous possibilities working with a
band of this quality offers."
The band will be based at Jaguar Sports and Social Club in
Coventry where they will rehearse.

issue of Classic FM magazine, told the Brass Band Portal "No one gave us a
hope, we were against tough opposition and we're pleased with our
