1998 European Brass Band Championships in Kerkrade, the Netherlands



The 21st European Brass Band Championships, sponsored by Boosey & Hawkes
were held in the Roda Hall in Kerkrade, the Netherlands. This is the second
time in the history of the Championships that the event has been held in
Kerkrade, on of the capitals of wind music and host to the famous World
Music Contest (WMC). The Championships were organised by the WMC Kerkrade
foundation, on behalf of the European Brass Band Association (EBBA) and in
association with the Dutch Band federations and the Dutch Institute for
Wind Music.

=3D=3D=3D  GALA CONCERT (Friday 1 May)  =3D=3D=3D

There was a Galal Concert in the Roda Hall on the evening of Friday 1 May
featuring CWS Glasgow Band, under the baton of Howard Snell with soloists,
Roger Webster (principal cornet CWS Glasgow Band) and Steven Mead
(principal euphnium CWS Glasgow Band). 

-Steven Mead has played 'Gypsy Airs' by Sarasate , followed by 'Oh My
Beloved Father' (Nessun Dorma) by Puccini. 
-Roger has played 'Cartoon' by Thomas Wilson , followed by something else.

The concert has also feature the well-know Pro Brass Ensemble, made up of
players from the Central European area, led by Alfred Lauss.

-2nd Price: Besson Scale; 2,000 Euro
-3th Price: Boosey & Hawkes Europese Cup; 1,500 Euro
-4th Price: 1,000 Euro
-5th Price: 500 Euro
