There are records which show the band playing at the opening of Beighton Railway Viaduct a couple of years previously, but the criterion is *continuous existence*, so you're stuck with 1853. Woodhouse, for those interested, is on the south side of Sheffield and is formerly a mining area - although now it just merges into the Sheffield metropolitan area, and all the pits have long gone. -- David Morris email: david@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Year2000.
