Many tubists own a variety of instruments, using the one which is most appropriate for a particular composer. Bass and contrabass tubas are built in F, Eb, CC and BBb. I'm not so sure about the BBb, but the other 3 definately are or have been used in the symphony orchestra. Some older French music used a small C tuba (euphonium), and the Bb euphonium (or tenor tuba) is still frequently used to augment the brass section in certain works, usually doubled on by a trombonist.
