Chris Houlding fondly told us a story at the Repton Trombone Festival day last February, of a Bass Trombonist with the Order of Foresters Band. On a march, told to change music and failed to apply the slide lock. It was only when the Bb basses walked all over it that the realisation that this slide was no more became apparent. The player is alive and well and still playing for Foresters I believe. On a personal note. I was doing a Big Band gig, and stood up to take a Slushy Tommy Dorsey style solo, when I took my hand off the slide brace to turn on the microphone. You guess what happened next. Not so much Getting Sentimental over You, more like Getting Cement all over You. It happens to the best I'm sure. Rich -- sponsors vetted unsub brass-band end --
