Brendon, Surely the main priority of a Salvationist bandsman is to spread the word of God and to use your musical talents to help you do this. The Salvation Army is NOT primararily a Brass Band, but a CHURCH, so to say that the Salvation Army has lost many of their people just because they failed to use their musical talents in a way that you think they should, in my mind goes to prove that these people were in the Salvation Army for all the wrong reasons anyhow. I currently play in my local Salvation Army band (which consists of about 5 players on a good day!) and I can guarantee you that this does not use my talents to the full, but I also play in my local town band where I get a great deal of satisfaction. However, I would not dream of leaving the Salvation Army just on the basis of music alone. Michelle --
