Dear Nick,

Had you had perfect pitch, I imagine you would have noticed it possibly from a very early age. What you are probably doing is relating the notes you are hearing in your mind to the instrument you are playing. However, in saying that, perfect pitch does sometimes develope in later life.

To test it, try different notes each time, and obviously, time periods between where the original has gone from the memory.
