Evening, list This could probably equally be sent to the "Modern English Usage" mailing list, but I don't happen to be a member of one, so I thought I'd post it here instead: Without giving away my stance, I was wondering if listees see "proper" banding as "traditional" banding. That is, can a band which has, for example, 20 cornets and 16 percussionists be seen as "proper", despite it's non-traditional compliment? Would the fact that it closes down for 6 weeks during the summer alter this assessment? The argument has been made that the band is proper due to the fact that it doesn't contain trumpets/woodwind etc. Do any of the more Educated listees who do things like read and/or write books have a journal which may settle the debate - by providing a definition of a proper band? Waiting with baited breath Matt Sommat Horn You know the rest --
